Why import your Google Maps leads into a CRM?
You spent an hour collecting prospects on Google Maps. You carefully selected dozens of businesses matching your target. You exported everything into a clean CSV file… And then what?
The file sits on your desktop. You tell yourself you’ll process it tomorrow. Tomorrow becomes next week. Leads cool off. Your prospecting stagnates.
82% of salespeople lose opportunities due to lack of organization. The problem isn’t finding prospects, it’s turning them into clients.
That’s where a sales prospecting tool like Prospect Hub makes the difference. In this guide, I’ll show you how to import your Google Maps leads into your prospecting CRM in under 5 minutes — and start contacting them today.
Prerequisites for free CSV import
Before starting, make sure you have:
- A Prospect Hub account (free, 30-second signup)
- A CSV file exported from Google Maps or a similar tool
Your Google Maps export typically contains these columns:
- Business name
- Full address
- Phone number
- Website
- Google rating (stars)
- Number of reviews
If you use a Chrome extension to export Google Maps searches, the format will be automatically recognized. Prospect Hub detects the most common columns without any input from you.
Step 1: Prepare the CSV file
Before importing, take a few seconds to check your file.
Quick checks
Open your CSV in Excel, Google Sheets, or a text editor. Make sure that:
- The first row contains headers (name, phone, email, etc.)
- Columns are separated by commas or semicolons
- The file is encoded in UTF-8 to avoid accent issues
Automatically recognized columns
Prospect Hub intelligently detects the following columns:
| Source column | Prospect Hub field |
|---|---|
| name, nom, business | Lead name |
| phone, telephone, tel | Phone |
| email, mail | |
| address, adresse | Address |
| website, site, url | Website |
| rating, note | Google rating |
| reviews, avis | Number of reviews |
If your columns have different names, don’t worry: you can map them manually in step 3.
Optional cleanup
For an optimal import, you can:
- Remove empty or incomplete rows
- Delete obvious duplicates
- Verify phone numbers are in the correct format
However, Prospect Hub handles these cases automatically too: duplicates are detected, empty rows ignored.
Step 2: Access import in Prospect Hub
Log into your Prospect Hub account. You’ll land on your main dashboard.
Two paths to import
Option 1: From the main menu
- Click Import CSV in the navigation
- You go directly to the import interface
Option 2: From the leads list
- Go to Leads in the menu
- Click the Import button at the top right
- Select Import CSV
Both paths lead to the same place: the drag and drop zone where you’ll drop your file.
Discover the import page
The CSV import page consists of three zones:
- Drop zone: drag your file here or click to browse
- History: your previous imports with their status
- Statistics: number of leads imported this month
This is where the magic of your lead management begins. Check out our complete import guide to discover all advanced options.
Step 3: Upload and verify mapping
Time to take action.
Drop your file
Drag your CSV file to the drop zone, or click to select it from your computer.
Prospect Hub immediately analyzes your file and shows you:
- The number of detected rows
- The identified columns
- A preview of the first rows
Verify automatic mapping
The mapping screen displays two columns:
| Your file | Prospect Hub field |
|---|---|
| ”Business name” | Name |
| ”Phone” | Phone |
| ”Website” | Website |
| … | … |
If the automatic mapping is correct, you can proceed directly to the next step.
Correct mapping if needed
If a column isn’t recognized or is incorrectly mapped:
- Click the dropdown menu to the right of the column
- Select the corresponding Prospect Hub field
- Or choose Ignore to skip importing this column
For example, if your file contains a “Category” column you want to use as a tag, map it to the Tags field.
Duplicate handling
Prospect Hub automatically detects duplicates based on:
- Phone number
- Email address (if present)
You can choose to:
- Ignore duplicates (default)
- Update existing records
- Create anyway (not recommended)
Step 4: Launch the import
Everything ready? Just click Launch import.
During import
A progress bar shows advancement. For a file of a few hundred leads, import typically takes under 30 seconds.
You’ll see in real time:
- Number of leads imported
- Number of duplicates detected
- Number of errors (malformed rows)
Import result
At the end, a detailed summary appears:
Import complete!
- 156 leads imported
- 12 duplicates ignored
- 2 rows ignored (incomplete data)
The leads are now available in your list. They automatically have New status and are ready to be contacted.
Tip: Add a tag to your import (e.g., “Google Maps January”) to easily find these leads later.
What to do after import? Lead management and prospecting
Your leads are imported. But this is just the beginning. Here’s how to turn these contacts into clients with your prospecting CRM.
Organize with the pipeline
Move your leads into the prospecting pipeline to visualize your progress:
- New: leads to contact
- Contacted: first contact made
- Interested: qualified prospect
- Clients: deal won
- Rejected: not interested or off-target
Drag and drop lets you move a lead from one column to another in a single click. Check out our guide How it works to master the pipeline and optimize your lead management.
Use automatic scoring
Prospect Hub automatically assigns a score to each lead based on:
- Website presence (if absent = opportunity)
- High Google rating (good reputation)
- Number of reviews (established business)
- Mobile vs. landline phone
“Hot” leads appear with a special badge — you instantly know who to contact first.
Plan your reminders
For each lead, you can add a reminder:
- Open the lead’s record
- Click Add reminder
- Select date and time
- Add an optional note
You’ll receive a notification at the scheduled time. No more forgotten leads.
Enrich with notes
After each call or interaction, add a note:
- What you discussed
- Identified needs
- Planned next action
These notes constitute the memory of your prospecting. Even 6 months later, you’ll know exactly where you stood with this prospect.
